# Join a team with a link or code

> How to join a team with the invitation link or code you were sent.

<Note>You need an invitation link or code from the President or a Manager.</Note>

## Step by step

1. Open the link. When the roster has a place, or when the invitation is for a known substitute, you see the team and 1 action, depending on where you open it:
   * Inside the app: **Join the team**.
   * In the browser on an Android or iOS phone: **Get the app and join**.
   * In any other browser at phone width: **Continue in the browser**.
2. If you were sent only the code, choose **I was invited to a team** when you start and paste it into **Invitation link or code**. The same team screen opens. When there is a place, or when it is a known-substitute invitation, you tap **Join the team**.
3. When you join, you see the welcome screen for the team, with actions such as **View the team**.

## Good to know

* Links are valid for 24 hours.
* The roster holds up to 30 people: the President, Managers, starters and substitutes. Known substitutes do not take up roster places.
* A known-substitute invitation works for one person only, and it still works when the roster has 30 people.
* If you are already on the team, the app just carries on, including when the roster is full.

## If something goes wrong

* If you see [**This link no longer leads anywhere**](/en/common-problems/link-not-working), the link does not work: it expired, the President or a Manager replaced it, someone already used the known-substitute invitation, or its President deleted the team. Ask the President or a Manager for a link that still works. **Go to Home** takes you back to the start.
* At 30 people, if you open a starter invitation that is still valid, you see that the roster is full and you cannot join. **Join the team**, **Get the app and join** and **Continue in the browser** do not appear. Generating another link does not create a place.
* That screen stays until you tap its only button, and the button depends on how you arrived:
  * **Continue**, if you open the link without being signed in, or signed in with start steps still to complete: you carry on through the app's normal entry.
  * **Go back**, if you arrived by pasting the code into **Invitation link or code**: you return to choosing how you start, with your profile and progress as they were.
  * **Go to Home**, if you already use the app and open the link from outside it: you go to Home.
* There is no waiting list or notification when a place opens, and the app does not join you on its own. Check with the President or a Manager.
* A roster member leaving, or being removed by the President, opens a place. You can open the original link again while it is still valid, or the President can try **Make official player** again. Removing a known substitute does not open a place. Transferring the presidency does not either if the person remains on the roster.
